BA Young People's Programme
CREST (CREativity in Science and Technology) is a UK-wide Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) award scheme managed by the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science). Through CREST, young people aged 11-19 explore the real nature of STEM by doing their own creative problem solving through mini projects. Engineers without Borders (EWB)
KS3 EWB- Cambridge University-this is a cross curricular activity developed in Canada by Engineers Without Borders – the activity aims to show applications of Science and Technology in Engineering in the context of third world development, so besides the engineering task the pupils are led to consider the development issues of third world countries.
Foundation Maths Activity with WRL –Papering and Decorating
Demonstrate to KS4 (Yr 10) pupils a practical application of the mathematics of Surface Area, and Tessellations.
KS3/KS4- Developing Robots
How are robots employed in industry and at home?-Students build a motorised, gear operated, hexapod and programme it to navigate a maze, then identify a use for their robot and market it.
The Physics of Construction – Bridge Building
Students use CAD and put into practice what they have learned as they design and make a spaghetti bridge.
AS level-Maths Workshop –Fractals and Chaos Theory
The wonder and mathematics of Fractals and what Chaos Theory has to do with predicting the weather.
UK Rocketry Association
The UKAYRoC provides secondary school students with a realistic experience in designing a flying aerospace vehicle that meets a specified set of mission and performance requirements. Students work in teams the same way aerospace engineers do. It is not intended to be easy, but it is well within the capabilities of secondary school students with a good background in science and maths and some craftsmanship skills. The purpose of the second UKAYRoC is to design and build a safe and stable model rocket and use it to lift a fragile payload (two raw hen's eggs) to an altitude of exactly 750 feet and also for a total flight duration of exactly 45 seconds, then return the payload safely and undamaged.

Learning Grid
A range of student motorsport competition and projects, as well as programmes for all ages from primary school up, is now brought together in the Learning Grid. Pupils can learn the fundamental principles of engineering, seeing how they apply in everyday life, and can even learn how to design, create, develop and race their own cars. Go4SET
A new Engineering Development Trust initiative involving students, engineers and companies in exciting projects to stimulate the interest of young people in Science, Engineering and Technology.
